“Those moments in life when crazy stuff is happening and you have no idea why it’s happening are the moments when I am so glad I am a Christian because no matter what happens I know that it is always in God’s plan for me! Thanks God!”

Yeah, sorry. There’s no interpretation here. Sad but true, this is exactly what the poor child meant. He’s only 15 and too clueless to know why he believes what he believes. Let’s check back in a few years and hope for the best, but for now we must resign ourselves to a lost cause.

For me the annoyance of this mentality comes from their ignorance (if they’re young), their gullibility (if they’re stupid), or their cognitive dissonance (if they’re old enough to know better but weak and cowardly). It’s hard to understand how any intelligent person’s response to life’s “crazy stuff” is a fucking unqualified “Thanks God!”

Okay. I’ll play. Here’s some “crazy stuff” for you…

You’ve just been raped or your daughter’s been murdered. How’s that? Do you really believe that a “Thanks God!” is in order? Are you really that deluded? Or are you a cherry-picking coward?

Now this is when they commence with all the yummy rationalizations and backpedaling. And let’s not forget their inability to recognize (even in silence) that they’re setting the rules of logic and happenstance (i.e. “no matter what happens”) to fit into their silly equation of god’s plan. This is why you just can’t fucking win with these people.

Listen up, child. It’s all his plan, or none of it is. Recognize and accept that you’re just cherry-picking your beliefs to reconcile any event to your desired satisfaction – though tragic as some events may be. You can’t possibly know god’s will. You can’t possibly know what’s part of his plan and what occurs by random chance. If you thank for one you thank for all. But you won’t, and we both know why. A bigger coward you could not be.
